How to Install IPTV on Firestick (2026 Step by Step Guide)

EagleCast·Updated September 2026·7 min read

The Amazon Firestick is the most popular device people use to watch IPTV, and for good reason: it is cheap, it plugs into any TV with an HDMI port, and it runs the same apps whether you paid $25 for a Fire TV Stick Lite or $60 for a 4K Max. What it does not do is let you install an IPTV player from the Amazon store, because those apps are not listed there.

That is the only real obstacle, and this guide walks you past it. The whole process takes about ten minutes, needs no computer, no rooting and no technical background. Follow the six steps below in order and you will be watching live TV by the end of them.

What you need before you start

  • An Amazon Fire TV Stick (any model Lite, 4K, 4K Max or Fire TV Cube)
  • A working internet connection, ideally 25 Mbps or faster for 4K
  • An active IPTV subscription with your login details either an Xtream Codes username, password and server URL, or an M3U playlist link
  • About ten minutes

If you do not have a subscription yet, you can start a free trial and come back to this page with your details in hand. Everything below works the same way whichever provider you use.

Step 1 Allow apps from unknown sources

By default the Firestick will only install apps from Amazon's own store. You need to turn that restriction off once.

  1. From the Fire TV home screen, go to Settings (the gear icon on the far right of the top menu)
  2. Select My Fire TV on some older models this is called Device
  3. Select Developer options
  4. Turn on Apps from Unknown Sources and confirm with Turn On

Do not see Developer options? Amazon hides it on newer firmware. Go to Settings → My Fire TV → About, highlight Fire TV Stick and press the select button seven times in a row. A message will read "No need, you are already a developer" or "You are now a developer". Go back one screen and Developer options will be there.

Step 2 Install the Downloader app

Downloader is a free, official Amazon app that lets you fetch installer files directly on the Firestick. It is the tool you will use to install the IPTV player.

  1. From the home screen, select the search icon (magnifying glass, top left)
  2. Type Downloader
  3. Choose the orange app with the white download arrow, published by AFTVnews
  4. Select Get or Download, then Open
  5. When it asks for permission to access files on your device, choose Allow

The first time Downloader opens it shows a short welcome message. Dismiss it and you will land on the Home tab with a URL box.

Step 3 Install an IPTV player

You now need an app that can read your subscription and play the streams. Two are worth your time.

IPTV Smarters Pro the easy option

Free, straightforward, and it accepts both Xtream Codes logins and M3U links. If this is your first IPTV setup, start here.

  1. Open Downloader and click the URL box
  2. Type iptvsmarters.com/smarters.apk and press Go
  3. Wait for the download, then select Install
  4. When it finishes, choose Done, then Delete to remove the installer file and free up space

TiviMate the better long-term option

TiviMate has a much nicer interface, a proper TV guide, catch up support and recording. The free version is enough for one playlist; the premium unlock is a one off payment. It only accepts M3U and Xtream Codes, not every format, but that covers most providers including EagleCast.

Install it the same way through Downloader, or find it in the Amazon Appstore where it is now listed directly.

Step 4 Add your subscription

Open the player you just installed. You will be asked how you want to log in.

If you have an Xtream Codes login (recommended)

Choose Login with Xtream Codes API and fill in:

  • Any name a label for yourself, such as "EagleCast"
  • Username from your activation message
  • Password from your activation message
  • Server URL the http address your provider sent you, including the port number

This method is better than an M3U link because it pulls in the TV guide, the on-demand library and the channel categories automatically, and it keeps working if the provider changes servers.

If you have an M3U link

Choose Load Your Playlist or File/URL, give it a name, and paste the full M3U URL exactly as you received it. One wrong character and it will fail, so paste rather than retype.

Step 5 Let the channels load

The first load takes a couple of minutes. The app is downloading the full channel list, the on demand catalogue and several days of TV guide data. Do not close it while the progress bar is moving.

When it finishes you will see your categories Live TV, Movies, Series. Open Live TV, pick any channel, and it should start playing within a few seconds.

Step 6 Consider a VPN

Some internet providers throttle streaming traffic, which shows up as buffering that has nothing to do with your IPTV service. A VPN routes your traffic differently and often fixes it. It also keeps your browsing private on your own network.

This is optional. Try your service without one first if it plays smoothly, you do not need it.

Troubleshooting

The app keeps buffering

Run a speed test on the Firestick itself, not on your phone. You want at least 25 Mbps for 4K and 10 Mbps for HD. If the speed is fine, move the Firestick closer to the router or switch to the 5 GHz band. If it still buffers, lower the stream quality in the player settings from 4K to FHD.

The app will not install

Go back to Settings → My Fire TV → Developer options and confirm Apps from Unknown Sources is still on. Firmware updates sometimes reset it. Also check you have free storage the Firestick Lite ships with only 8 GB and fills up quickly.

No channels appear after login

This is almost always a typo in the server URL or a missing port number. Delete the playlist and add it again, pasting rather than typing. If it still fails, your subscription may not be activated yet check with your provider.

Channels play but the TV guide is empty

The guide loads separately and can take longer than the channel list. Leave the app open for ten minutes, then restart it. If it is still empty, you are probably on an M3U link rather than an Xtream Codes login switch to Xtream Codes and the guide will populate.

Everything worked, then stopped

Restart the Firestick properly: Settings → My Fire TV → Restart. Pulling the plug works too. If the problem persists across restarts, it is on the provider's side and support should sort it out.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a computer for any of this?

No. Everything above is done with the Fire TV remote.

Will this work on a Fire TV Cube or a Fire TV built into a television?

Yes. The menus are identical, and every step applies.

Can I watch on more than one device at the same time?

Only if your plan allows it. Each connection streams on one screen at a time, so a two-device plan lets two people watch different channels simultaneously. You can install the app on as many devices as you like the limit is on concurrent streams, not installations.

Does installing an IPTV app void my Firestick warranty?

No. You are only enabling a setting Amazon provides and installing an app, exactly as you would on an Android phone. Nothing is rooted or modified.

How do I remove everything if I change my mind?

Go to Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications, select the app and choose Uninstall. Then turn Apps from Unknown Sources back off.

That is it

Six steps, about ten minutes, and your Firestick is a full TV box. The same method works on any Android TV device the menu names change slightly, but the sequence is the same: allow unknown sources, install Downloader, install a player, add your subscription.
